Great lights, but that wiring.......

The lights themselves are worth 5 stars, but unfortunately I cannot give 5 stars for the whole package. The light pattern is exactly what I was looking for they appear to be very solid units. But two things concern me:

1) Wiring is minimalist which I would not recommend under the punishing demands of off-road use. The 22 gage wire might be sufficient to power the LEDs, but I felt like I was gong to damage it just trying to pull it through the gaps and holes between the light and battery. A little rubbing on a metal edge over time would surely damage it. The connectors are enclosed in waterproof silicone sheaths, but while trying to pull one connector apart, the sheath slid back. I had to grip the sheath tight enough to pull the wire too and I was near certain I was going to break the wire at the crimp. I ended up having to loom and grommet all the exposed wiring. (I since found that a competitive and comparably priced light comes with heavier gage wire in a continuous sleeve - much better quality.)

2) This is a bit nitpicky, but the guard covers have the "LED" printed a little off center at the bottom. So when installed, the lights appear to be crooked. The "PIAA" molded into the light lens is obviously dead center on the bottom, so it is not the installation, but the print on the guard.

All that being said, I will keep them. Not many amber street legal lights out there. I prefer the compact retro round shape over other brand's squarish lights, and I look forward to the first snowstorm I have to drive through.

Nice yellow light is less taxing on my eyes when encountering reflective objects, it seems to help fill in the peripheral terrain information my brights are missing. These 530s came in a nice, simple kit and were easy to aim. You don't have to run the PIAA covers if you don't care for them but I don't think they reduce the outgoing light.
